Oxbow Hops Into A Frog Frenzy This August

Learn more about frogs at the Oxbow this August.
Visit the Oxbow Eco-Center during August and join the frog frenzy. Stop in Tuesday through Friday from noon - 5 p.m. or Saturday from 10 a.m. - 5 p.m. and make your own hopping origami frog, play Tic-Tac-Toad, do some "toad-ally" awesome coloring, and learn fun froggy facts with our displays and activity sheets. These self-guided activities are free and fun for the whole family!

Other frog programs planned for the month of August include:

The Oxbow's ''Swamp Tales'' on Wednesday, Aug. 4 from 3:45 - 4:15 p.m. is a free story time appropriate for ages 2 - 6. This month's story, "Jump, Frog, Jump!" by Robert Kalan, is an interactive story following a frog's life in the food chain surrounding his pond. Jump with him as he evades predators such as fish, snakes and turtles.

Learn interesting facts about how frogs and toads eat, and watch the Oxbow's environmental ambassadors in action at ''Critter Chat'' happening every Tuesday (Aug. 3, 10, 17, 24, 30) from 3:45 - 4:15 p.m. This event is free and appropriate for all ages.

The Oxbow's Nature for Families presents "Ribbiting Frogs and Toads" on Saturday, Aug. 14 from 12:30 - 2:30 p.m.  Create your own jumping frogs, meet Oxbow's amphibious ambassadors, and have a hopping good time participating in frog and toad races. Also, participants will experience the joy of eating like a frog and other weird and wonderful adaptations. Appropriate for all ages. Please RSVP. The cost is $3 per participant. Admission is non-refundable and seats are limited.

Join us for a night hike that will "toad-ally" knock your socks off on Friday, Aug. 20 from 6:30 - 8 p.m.! The Oxbow's "Full Moon Froggy Night Hike" will include a presentation on identifying frogs by their songs, habitat and coloration so you can start your own community frog listening network. The presentation will be followed by a full-moon hike on the Oxbow preserve. This program will take place rain or shine. Appropriate for ages 6 and up. Please RSVP. The cost is $3 per participant. Admission is non-refundable and seats are limited.
In addition to the various scheduled events, the Oxbow's trails are open every day from dawn until dusk. Situated on a 225-acre preserve on the North Fork of the St. Lucie River, the Oxbow offers a rare glimpse of "the real Florida" with nature trails, boardwalks, observation towers and an interactive environmental learning center.

The Oxbow is located at 5400 N.E. St. James Drive, Port St. Lucie (across from the Publix Shopping Center). For more information call the staff at (772) 785-5833 or visit www.stlucieco.gov/erd/oxbow.
