Friday, December 3, 2010 - Fort Pierce Library Showcases Holiday Movies For December

The Fort Pierce Branch Library announces its ''Friday Matinee'' lineup for December. Held every Friday, the library presents a free film, starting at 2 p.m.
  • Dec. 3 - "Holiday Inn" (1942) featuring Fred Astaire and Bing Crosby. At an inn which is only open on holidays, a crooner and a hoofer vie for the affections of a beautiful up-and-coming performer. Black and white.  Running time: 100 minutes; not rated.
  • Dec. 10 - "Mr. Bean's Holiday" (2007) featuring Rowan Atkinson. Mr. Bean wins a trip to Cannes where he unwittingly separates a young boy from his father and must help the two come back together. On the way he discovers France, bicycling, and true love, among other things. Running time: 90 minutes; G-rated.
  • Dec. 17 - "Nutcracker" (1977) featuring Mikhail Baryshnikov and Gelsey Kirkland. Join Mikhail Baryshnikov in the realm of toy soldiers, dancing snowflakes and sheer magical entertainment as puppets come to life. Set to Tchaikovsky's masterful music, this fairytale is a holiday classic. Running time: 79 minutes; not rated.
  • Dec. 31 - "Death Takes A Holiday" (1934) featuring Frederick March and Evelyn Venable. Death decides to take a holiday from his usual business to see what it is like to be a mortal. Posing as Prince Sirki, he spends three days with Duke Lambert and his guests at his ducal estate. Several of the women are attracted to the mysterious prince, but shy away from him when they sense his true nature. Black and white. Running time: 79 minutes, not rated.

All St. Lucie County libraries will be closed Friday, Dec. 24 and Saturday, Dec. 25 in observance of Christmas, so the Friday Matinee for that week will be cancelled. Libraries will be opened Friday, Dec. 31, but closed Saturday, New Year's Day.
