Thursday, July 8, 2010 - Florida Gov. Issues One-Day Qualifying Date For Property Appraiser's Seat
Due to the death of St. Lucie County Property Appraiser Jeff Furst, Florida Gov. Charlie Crist has signed an executive order announcing a special one-day qualifying date for those looking to run for position of St. Lucie County Property Appraiser.The qualifying papers and fees to run for the Property Appraiser's seat must be completed and turned in to the St. Lucie County Supervisor of Elections Office on Thursday, July 15 between 8 am. - 5 p.m.
This vacancy will be filled for the remainder of Mr. Furst's term, which runs through the 2012 General Election. The Supervisor of Elections Office is located at 4132 Okeechobee Road, Fort Pierce. For more information call (772) 462-1500 or visit www.slcelections.com.
To qualify for the Property Appraiser's position, candidates only need to be a registered voter in St. Lucie County and must be able to pay a fee of $5,137.96 if running without a party designation or $7,706.94 if with a party tag.
Mr. Furst passed away Monday after suffering a stroke at the age of 68. He has held the position of Property Appraiser since 2001, running unopposed in 2004 and 2008.
