Wednesday, June 23, 2010 - Extension Office Staff Earns National Awards

The St. Lucie County Cooperative Extension Office is the recent recipient of two national awards from the Association of Natural Resource Extension Professionals (ANREP).

The St. Lucie Cooperative Extension staff received:

  • Gold (first place national) - Promotional Materials - Sea Turtle Friendly Beaches. Staff included: Ken Gioeli, Susan Munyan and Tracy Bryant (University of Florida Graphic Artist). This project was made possible thanks to a grant from the Caribbean Conservation Corporation and involved the development of highway billboards, publications and educational displays for Treasure Coast environmental education centers.
  • Bronze (third place national) - Outstanding Team - Tropical Soda Apple Integrated Pest Management Program. Staff included: Ken Gioeli, Dr. Bill Overholt and Dr. Rodrigo Diaz (UF/IFAS IRREC Hayslip Biological Control Research & Containment Laboratory). This project was made possible thanks to a grant from USDA Animal and Plant Health Inspection Service.

The ANREP is a national association for Cooperative Extension Service professionals working in environmental education, fisheries, forestry, wood sciences, recreation, waste management, water, wildlife and related disciplines.
