Wednesday, December 24, 2008 - New ID Cards Required For Lawnwood Skate Park Starting Jan. 1
Effective Jan. 1, skaters using Lawnwood Skate Park must obtain a new Photo Identification Card from St. Lucie County's Parks and Recreation Department.These cards can be purchased at a cost of $10 annually for St. Lucie County residents and $20 annually for out-of-county residents. Skateboarders and in-line skaters using Lawnwood Skate Park must keep these photo ID cards on them at all times when using the park. The skate cards are required for skaters of all ages, and can be obtained at the Havert L. Fenn Center, 2000 Virginia Ave., on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays from 9 a.m. - 6 p.m. and Tuesdays and Thursdays from 9 a.m. - 9 p.m. Proof of residency is required such as a driver's license, tax bill or current electric bill. Cash, checks and credit cards will be accepted.
St. Lucie County students who receive free lunches through the school system can obtain a skate card at no cost. However, they must provide proof of eligibility when applying for a skate card. Those under the age of 18 must have a notarized waiver signed by a parent or legal guardian on file with St. Lucie County's Parks and Recreation Department to obtain a skate card. Waivers are available at the Fenn Center or online at www.stlucieco.gov/parks/skatepark.htm.
The Lawnwood Skate Park is a 15,000-square-foot concrete skate park located at 2100 Virginia Ave., behind the Havert L. Fenn Center. This plaza-style skate park is open daily from 8 a.m. to dusk. Daily admission into the park is free. Helmets and shirts must be worn at all times.
