Thursday, December 4, 2008 - Volunteers Needed For Tax Preparation
This year, the Treasure Coast Community Action Agency, in conjunction with the IRS's Volunteer Income Tax Assistance (VITA) Program, is seeking volunteers to help with tax preparation, screening, case management and more. Volunteers of all ages and backgrounds are welcome.VITA is the nation's largest free volunteer-run tax assistance and preparation service. Volunteers receive free training and help customers at tax sites in a variety of ways. Even if you don't want to deal with the tax return preparation, you can still help. Volunteering is a great way to learn new skills and to be involved in your community. Volunteers are needed as tax preparers, screeners, location support, case managers, etc.
For more information on how you can join the tax assistance team, please contact the St. Lucie County Community Services Office at (772) 462-2089.
Volunteers are needed in VITA sites in four counties: St. Lucie, Martin, Okeechobee and Indian River. VITA sites provide free tax assistance and preparation for low- and middle-income individuals. Free support eliminates the expense of having taxes prepared and with direct deposit; returns can arrive within 10 days.
