November 6, 2007 - SLC Extension Hosts Botanical Volunteers Nov. 9
On Friday, Nov. 9, the University of Florida / St Lucie County Cooperative Extension will be hosting a visiting group of 55 Pinellas County Master Gardener volunteers from the Florida Botanical Gardens in Largo. Beginning at 10 a.m., these Pinellas County volunteers will be visiting with our local St. Lucie County Master Gardeners at the Extension office. The Pinellas County Master Gardeners are visiting their St. Lucie County Master Gardener counter-parts to learn about unique gardening opportunities such as those found in the Discovery Garden, Butterfly Garden, shade house nursery, nature walk, and courtyard garden. While visiting with the St. Lucie County Master Gardeners, the Pinellas County volunteers will also be visiting local points of interest to horticulturalists such as Heathcote Botanical Gardens and the Indian River Research and Education Center.
The Florida Botanical Gardens is located in Largo, Fla. Its mission is to inspire and educate visitors by showcasing flora, fauna and natural resources in motivational surroundings that promote environmentally friendly techniques. The garden is comprised of 30 acres of cultivated gardens and ninety acres of natural areas. The Florida Botanical Garden features Florida natives, rare and unusual exotics and hard-working garden plants that combine to form a rich and diverse tapestry of colors woven into this Pinellas County attraction. The St. Lucie County Master Gardeners are honored to host this dynamic group of Pinellas County visitors.
