March 3, 2005 - Nature Photography Workshop at the Oxbow Eco-Center

For many budding photographers, nature is a setting difficult to resist. It pulls us out of our concrete structures and into a natural setting full of color, texture, and the play of light. It beckons us with inspiring landscapes and reminds us of our innate connection with the magic of life. So it’s no surprise that nature photography is a rapidly growing hobby in the United States, and the Oxbow Eco-Center is joining in the fun.

On March 18 and 19, nature photographer Joanne Williams will be hosting a presentation and workshop at the Oxbow Eco-Center in Pt. St. Lucie. One of the state’s leading nature photographers, Joanne’s portfolio includes images from Africa, the Caribbean islands, the Falkland Islands, the Priboloogs, and most of the United States. The last few years she has been shooting extensively in her home state of Florida. Her work has been on exhibit at the Smithsonian National Museum of Natural History and can frequently be seen in Birder’s World Magazine, Bird Watcher’s Digest, Defenders of Wildlife, and The New York Times. To view some of her work, please visit her website at www.natureandwildlife.com.

On March 18 at 7:00 p.m. Ms. Williams will present “Your Florida Journey and Beyond.” This program is a showpiece her work and offers visitors a spectacular view of Florida’s natural treasures. The program is free and open to the public.

On Saturday, March 19 from 6:30 a.m. until 6 p.m., Ms. Williams will direct a full-day Nature Photography workshop. This workshop is designed for both hobbyists and serious photographers and will include two hands-on field trips to local natural areas, a session on common mistakes and how to avoid them, plus lunch. Cost for the workshop is $85.
