Thursday, May 24, 2012 - Libraries Announce Summer Reading Program June 20-July 26

The St. Lucie County Library System will be hosting a five-week summer reading program at four different branch libraries starting June 20. Featuring magic, music, entertainment and more, children will learn about the importance of reading at these free events.

Week 1 – Join Geddy, the Gecko and Super Geddy for a fun-filled program that will get you moving.

  • Morningside Branch Library, 2410 Morningside Blvd., Port St. Lucie – Wednesday, June 20 at 10 a.m.
  • Fort Pierce Branch Library/Riverwalk Center, 600 North Indian River Drive, Fort Pierce – Wednesday, June 20 at 2 p.m.
  • Lakewood Park Branch Library, 7605 Santa Barbara Drive, Fort Pierce – Thursday, June 21 at 10 a.m.
  • Zora Neale Hurston Branch Library, 3008 Avenue D, Fort Pierce – Thursday, June 21 at 2 p.m.

Week 2 – Explore the dreamscape with Salty Sue, the pirate lady, as she shares dream tales and pirate adventures.

  • Fort Pierce Branch Library/Riverwalk Center, 600 North Indian River Drive, Fort Pierce – Wednesday, June 27 at 2 p.m.

  • Zora Neale Hurston Branch Library, 3008 Avenue D, Fort Pierce – Thursday, June 28 at 2 p.m.

Week 3 – Lyndel, the magician, presents “Dream Big & Read Magic Show,” where he will share funny stories, amazing magic and awesome music. Be prepared for lots of surprises.

  • Fort Pierce Branch Library/Riverwalk Center, 600 North Indian River Drive, Fort Pierce – Wednesday, July 11 at 2 p.m.

  • Zora Neale Hurston Branch Library, 3008 Avenue D, Fort Pierce – Thursday, July 12 at 2 p.m.

Week 4 – The Hobe Sound Nature Center staff will offer two different programs, featuring live animals. “Winged Warriors of the Sky” will be presented at the Morningside and Lakewood Park Branches, while “A Rainforest Journey” will be presented at the Fort Pierce and Zora Branches.

Week 5 – Mr. Brian and the Boppets cranky out upbeat fun for the whole family. Mr. Brian uses high energy and catchy music to get the young ones up and boogying.
