Thursday, April 5, 2012 - St. Lucie County Office of Management and Budget Earns National Award

The Government Finance Officers Association of the United States and Canada (GFOA) announced recently that St. Lucie County has received the GFOA's Distinguished Budget Presentation Award for its annual budget for the 14th consecutive year.

In additional to the Distinguished Budget Presentation Award, the St. Lucie County Office of Management and Budget will receive a Certificate of Recognition for Budget Presentation.

“To receive this award for 14 consecutive years is an affirmation that we take our responsibility for transparency to the taxpayers seriously,” said St. Lucie County Office of Budget and Management Director Marie Gouin.

The award represents a significant achievement by the County, reflecting the staff's commitment to meeting the highest principles of governmental budgeting. In order to receive the GFOA award, St. Lucie County had to meet nationally-recognized guidelines for effective budget presentation, including a policy document, a financial plan, an operational guide and a communications device.

The Government Finance Officers Association is a nonprofit, professional organization serving 17,600 government finance professionals throughout North America. The GFOA's Distinguished Budget Presentation Award program is the only national awards program in governmental budgeting.
